I didn't plan to blog about this, but I was moved by Freddie Mercury's love of cats as portrayed in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody (2018). I feel that most crazy cat people are fans of other crazy cat celebrities. Even if you don't necessarily like them per se, you like that they are cat owners. It's an unwritten rule that makes you interested in them even more. I saw Bohemian Rhapsody a few nights ago, and I knew Freddie Mercury was a cat lover, but I didn't know to what extent...needless to say he was a crazy Cat Daddy! (I feel like he would enjoy the moniker "Cat Daddy" much more than "Crazy Cat Man".)
The movie focuses on the band Queen and Freddie Mercury's cats are prominently
included. It's not just a passing scene and it's not just one or two
cats. It's a bunch of cats. He was known for calling his London flat when he was touring to talk to his cats, he dedicated his first solo album, Mr. Bad Guy to his cats Tom, Jerry, Oscar, Tiffany, Delilah, Goliath, Miko, Romeo and Lily. The Queen song "Delilah" was about his cat! When he buys his mansion in the movie, he has rooms for
each cat. The cats are even shown watching their daddy play at
Live Aid! He saved all of his cats from shelters, except for one that was given to him by his "common law wife" Mary. The cats were his family and it's obvious he loved them very much.
The fashion, acting, and music in Bohemian Rhapsody is spot on. It leaves out Mercury's early years and starts when the band starts. The finale is Queen playing at Live Aid, so it ends on a high note....literally and there's cats. What's not to love?
Here's a compilation of Mercury's cat pictures set to the song "Delilah".
